Port Ghalib & Marsa Alam overview

Port Ghalib Marina

Marsa Alam has the appearance of a tropical paradise with its palm trees, mangroves and sea coasts fringed with coral reefs perfect for divers.

Port Ghalib unfurls along one of the finest marinas on the Red Sea boasting delectable restaurants, cafes, bars and a myriad of land and sea activities.

Port Ghalib

The new marina and leisure development of Port Ghalib, situated close to Marsa Alam airport, is set to be the largest in the Middle East once completed and will feature restaurants, cafes, bars, numerous retail outlets, a traditional Egyptian bazaar and an international marina surrounded by well appointed luxury residences and sophisticated hotels.

Marsa Alam

Once a small fishing village, Marsa Alam is now an up and coming destination and with its new international airport, it is set to rival some of the more established Egyptian holiday resorts such as Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh.

This remote and tranquil area boasts some of the most secluded beaches and uncrowded coves and, surrounded by palm trees, mangroves, unspoilt coral reefs and the turquoise sea, it is reminiscent of a tropical paradise.

Marsa Alam

Increasingly popular with windsurfers and divers, it boasts the Sha'ab Samadi Reef, also known as Dolphin House, just a few hundred metres offshore, a stunning lagoon home to over 100 spinner dolphins, and Elphinstone Reef, considered to be a premier dive and snorkelling site with sea turtles, angel fish and sharks including hammerhead and grey reef varieties.

The small harbour in the town is home to bars, shops and some restaurants, where seafood is the speciality. Desert safaris in the Wadi El Gemal National Park are offered from this resort by jeep, quad bike or camel, and inland sights include the Emerald Mines; a site of great historical value, located in the desert between Marsa Alam and the Nile Valley.

Diving & Snorkelling

Part of a nature reserve, the Marsa Alam area has managed to remain relatively unspoilt and uncrowded and offers both day boat trips and shore diving to sites such as Elphinstone Reef and Sha'ab Samadi also known as Dolphin House. There are a number of sheltered bays and even though it is possible to learn to dive in Marsa Alam it is better suited to the more experienced diver. For the qualified, this is a top-class diving area with beautiful pristine reefs which are home to some wonderful marine life including turtles, guitar sharks and dolphins.
